THERAGENETICS APPOINTS ROBERT MCBURNEY, PH.D. AS EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

TheraGenetics Limited, a personalized medicine diagnostics company that is developing and commercializing a portfolio of pharmacogenetic diagnostic tests to guide and improve the treatment of central nervous system (CNS) disorders, announced today the appointment of Robert N. McBurney, Ph.D., to Executive Vice President. In this newly created role, Dr. McBurney will be responsible for leading the company’s global business development and partnership strategy and will report to Richard Kivel, CEO of TheraGenetics.

“I have known Robert for many years through our mutual involvement in MIT’s entrepreneurship programs and it gives me great pleasure to welcome him to the TheraGenetics’ executive leadership team,” stated Richard Kivel, Chief Executive Officer of TheraGenetics. “His impressive background in the field of neuroscience will add tremendous value to the Company and enhance our commitment to bring personalized medicine diagnostics into clinical practice for critical CNS disorders by predicting patient response and side-effects to drug treatments.”

Dr. McBurney brings to TheraGenetics more than 20 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. He most recently served as Senior Vice President, Research & Development and Chief Scientific Officer at BG Medicine, Inc., where he was responsible for overseeing the application of the company’s molecular systems analysis technology platform to provide solutions for the pharmaceutical industry and to discover biomarkers for development into molecular diagnostics. Prior to BG Medicine, he co-founded Differential Proteomics, Inc., a start-up biotechnology company focused on unlocking the potential of proteomics for use in drug discovery, clinical development and patient management. In addition, Dr. McBurney held the position of President at CeNeS Pharmaceuticals, Inc., served in several executive leadership roles of increasing responsibility at Cambridge NeuroScience, including Chief Executive Officer and President, and held medical research and academic positions at leading centers of excellence, including the Medical Research Council’s Neuroendocrinology Unit, Newcastle University, National Institutes of Health, and Cambridge University. He earned his Ph.D. and his B.Sc. in Physiology from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
