Manchester, UK (October 2008). RTS Life Science, a worldwide supplier of automated sample management and drug delivery testing systems, today announces that it will exhibit at the Drug Delivery to the Lungs (DDL) annual conference, Edinburgh International Conference Centre, 10th –12th December, 2008. Technical experts from RTS Life Science will be available at DDL on booth #13 to discuss its fully automated, as well as recently launched Walkaway Specialist range of semi-automated inhaler testing solutions.

Traditionally known for its automated solutions for pressurised metered dose inhalers, RTS Life Science also provides automated solutions for dry powder inhalers. The RTS mDPI (multi-dose dry powder inhaler) Waste Shot Firer Walkaway Specialist solutions have been designed specifically for dry powder inhalers. These dedicated waste firing systems feature fully integrated vacuum and filtration systems, automated control and monitoring of inhalation and actuation parameters and RTS TouchSprint™, a sophisticated yet intuitive method driven control system. A carousel design can accommodate up to 30 metered dose dry powdered inhalers at one time, allowing for extended periods of unattended operation. A solution for parallel waste firing of multiple dry powder inhalers is also available. Modular designs and flexible device actuation ensure that waste firing systems can be easily developed for new mDPI devices, offering a robust and reliable solution for conditioning and actuating inhaler devices.

New to the automated inhaler testing range from RTS Life Science is the innovative Walkaway Specialist pMDI (pressurised metered dose inhaler) Waste Shot Firer. The system features a fully integrated air pump and filtration system, rotary and linear shaking capability, ex-valve and ex-actuator firing, automated control and monitoring of shake and fire parameters and the intuitive RTS TouchSprint™ user interface. Designed to process up to ten inhaler devices efficiently through the waste firing process, the pMDI system can easily accommodate multiple actuator variations through easy load cradles.

Also new to the automated inhaler testing range is the RTS Universal Test Shot Firing System. This system facilitates reproducible conditioning, actuation and introduction of inhalers to a variety of dose uniformity and particle size analysis equipment including dose collection tubes, cascade impactors (NGI and ACI), impingers and particle size analysers. The system features a novel inhaler adapter system, the RTS TouchSprint™ user interface and, is easily integrated to external flow controllers and other equipment.
The annual DDL conference highlights the development of inhalers for the treatment of both respiratory diseases and systemic drug delivery. This three day event offers RTS Life Science the ideal platform to launch its new Walkaway Specialist automated solutions to the industry.
